Eureka Kikuyu Grass is a proven performer in most Australian climates, known for vigorous growth and the ability to stand up to a wide range of conditions. Suited to both home lawns and larger spaces such as racecourses and parks, Eureka is Australia's number one Kikuyu grass.

In cooler climates, it maintains its growth and colour well into autumn and early winter, and it also offers superior disease resistance along with reasonable cold weather tolerance. Its leaves are approximately 4 to 5mm wide and 25 to 40mm long, with a bright yellow green colour.

Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu is a warm season grass with a medium leaf and an attractive bright green colour. Shorter plant internodes give it a denser, more compact canopy, making for a lawn that looks great and feels even better underfoot.

Eureka Kikuyu is one of Australia's most popular lawn choices, and for good reason. Fast growing, vibrant and tough, it delivers strong coverage and recovery even under challenging conditions. This warm season grass performs best in full sun, offering good drought tolerance and winter resilience that allows it to perform well across most Australian climates.

Its rapid growth and durability make it well suited to larger areas, active backyards and public spaces. As one of the most economical turf varieties available, it's a favourite among families, landscapers and anyone after a low-cost, high-performance lawn.

Very High Drought Tolerance

Eureka Kikuyu needs only moderate watering once properly established. In areas with medium drought conditions, low rainfall or municipal water restrictions, it draws on a deep root system that accesses moisture further down in the soil profile.

During peak heat, growth may slow, but it bounces back quickly with deep watering. We recommend watering two to three times a week in summer, and less often in spring and autumn, depending on local conditions. Thanks to its vigorous growth habit and quick self-repair, it copes with temporary dry periods far better than many cool season grasses.

An Economical All-Rounder Grass

For turf that balances performance with affordability, Eureka Kikuyu stands out as a genuine all-rounder. It's an ideal choice for home lawns and public spaces on a budget, offering quick coverage, fast recovery from damage and relatively low maintenance needs. It delivers great value for schools, parks and large residential lawns without compromising on colour, density or wear resistance.

Great in High-Traffic Areas

Eureka Kikuyu spreads rapidly via vigorous runners, or stolons, allowing it to self-repair from heavy wear or damage. Whether it's energetic pets, club sports or a solid backyard cricket session, this turf can handle the pressure. With regular mowing and seasonal care, it keeps a tight, healthy growth mat for busy backyards, public venues and sports grounds.

Kikuyu grass is known for its invasive spreading. Its aggressive growth habit means runners can regularly creep into garden beds and pathways, and left unchecked, it can behave like a weed, requiring regular maintenance to keep under control.

One of the simplest ways to stop kikuyu from spreading is regular mowing and whipper snippering along the lawn edges. But once runners have taken hold in your garden beds, here are a couple of options to bring it back under control: 

  • Pull it out by hand: for smaller invaded areas, gloves and a bit of elbow grease can do the job. Take care to remove all the runners, using a spade to help sever them into manageable sections. 
  • Use a non-selective herbicide: a chemical like glyphosate can effectively kill off creepers and unwanted patches of grass. Since invasive grasses like kikuyu grow tall quickly, the best time to remove runners is when the lawn has a bit of length to it, making them easier to spot and pull.


Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu turf is highly drought tolerant, so you'll only need to water on an as-needed basis. There are two exceptions to keep in mind: if your lawn is showing signs of dryness or wilting, or if you've just installed the turf.

Following installation, Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu requires less water to establish and less water to maintain long term compared to other turf varieties. Watering on an as-needed basis helps prevent excess thatch build up and unnecessary maintenance. One of its standout features is a fibrous root system that draws water from deep in the subsoil, keeping the grass nourished even in hot temperatures.

As a general rule, water as needed during summer and avoid watering over winter.

  • Drought tolerant

  • Year-round installation
    Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu’s proven winter activity means it will establish in cool climates all year round, whether the project is installed with both hard turf or stolons.
  • Low-medium maintenance
    Growth and colour can be maintained easily with Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu’s self-repairing features. It also requires less water to establish and less water/fertiliser to maintain than other kikuyu varieties. If mown regularly, it will look ideal when mown at approximately 25mm.   1. Prepare area: Clear the area of debris, vegetation and ensure the ground is level.
  2. Lay the Base: Lay Turf Sand or Lawn Mix 100mm deep.
  3. Roll out the turf: Roll out the turf strips onto the prepared base.
  4. Water the turf: For the initial period ensure the turf is watered regularly.
