Very High Drought Tolerance

Eureka Kikuyu needs only moderate watering once properly established. In areas with medium drought conditions, low rainfall or municipal water restrictions, it draws on a deep root system that accesses moisture further down in the soil profile.

During peak heat, growth may slow, but it bounces back quickly with deep watering. We recommend watering two to three times a week in summer, and less often in spring and autumn, depending on local conditions. Thanks to its vigorous growth habit and quick self-repair, it copes with temporary dry periods far better than many cool season grasses.

An Economical All-Rounder Grass

Great in High-Traffic Areas

Eureka Kikuyu spreads rapidly via vigorous runners, or stolons, allowing it to self-repair from heavy wear or damage. Whether it's energetic pets, club sports or a solid backyard cricket session, this turf can handle the pressure. With regular mowing and seasonal care, it keeps a tight, healthy growth mat for busy backyards, public venues and sports grounds.

Kikuyu grass is known for its invasive spreading. Its aggressive growth habit means runners can regularly creep into garden beds and pathways, and left unchecked, it can behave like a weed, requiring regular maintenance to keep under control.

One of the simplest ways to stop kikuyu from spreading is regular mowing and whipper snippering along the lawn edges. But once runners have taken hold in your garden beds, here are a couple of options to bring it back under control: 

• Pull it out by hand: for smaller invaded areas, gloves and a bit of elbow grease can do the job. Take care to remove all the runners, using a spade to help sever them into manageable sections. 
• Use a non-selective herbicide: a chemical like glyphosate can effectively kill off creepers and unwanted patches of grass. Since invasive grasses like kikuyu grow tall quickly, the best time to remove runners is when the lawn has a bit of length to it, making them easier to spot and pull.
  
  
  

Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu turf is highly drought tolerant, so you'll only need to water on an as-needed basis. There are two exceptions to keep in mind: if your lawn is showing signs of dryness or wilting, or if you've just installed the turf.

Following installation, Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu requires less water to establish and less water to maintain long term compared to other turf varieties. Watering on an as-needed basis helps prevent excess thatch build up and unnecessary maintenance. One of its standout features is a fibrous root system that draws water from deep in the subsoil, keeping the grass nourished even in hot temperatures.

As a general rule, water as needed during summer and avoid watering over winter.
